Here is an article I pulled from my 6461 class as well. The authors discuss the interpersonal skills necessary to be a successful media specialist. I found it interesting that the skills discussed were the same as required in my former career of being an account manager...strong marketing and public relation skills. In my next career as a media specialist, I'll be marketing books and technology. I'll be using PR skills to sell to new clients which are library patrons...teachers, students, parents, administrators, etc....I hope you enjoy the article.

Good article on interpersonal skills. I think these skills are necessary to be successful in many professions. The bottom line is some folks are just better with dealing with people than others.
I think this article is right on target. We have to sell the Media Center to children and their parents. When I worked at the university library, I taught patrons more than research skills. I taught them about the university, navigating the internet, gave directions to everywhere around Carrollton and West Georgia. I think to be a good media specialist you must be good at customer service. I loved my job and interacting with people. I think it takes a certain personality to be a good media specialist as well.
